![]() If you prefer to use alternative PDF viewers on Mac, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, PDF Reader Pro, you can easily change the default PDF reader and switch between them anytime you like with just a few clicks. By default all PDF documents will be opened with Preview app. Preview is the default PDF viewer for Mac. The settings for all values in all panes in the Initial View may be established for one or many PDFs by use of a Batch Sequence/Action (Acrobat Pro required). Configuration settings other than 'Default' dictate how the PDF is viewed initially. ![]() It will then prompt you to make make Acrobat Reader or Pro as the default application for PDF files on your Mac. Go to the File menu, select Open, then browse to a PDF file on your Mac and open it with the Acrobat Reader or Pro. Make Acrobat or Reader as the default PDF viewer Run Adobe Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Pro on your Mac. I leave Preview as my default PDF viewer because it’s fast and performs admirably when I simply need to open and read a PDF. I choose to leave Preview as my default PDF viewer, even though I have both PDFpen and Adobe Acrobat on my system. That means out of the box, your Mac will open Preview when you double-click a PDF file.
